Introduction to QISSMUN 2023
Last year’s theme, “2020 and Beyond,” challenged us to envision the future and explore ways to create a more sustainable and equitable world. However, the events of the past year have brought to light the urgent need to address the many barriers that stand in the way of achieving this vision.
Building on last year’s subject, the focus of QISSMUN 2023 will be on the theme “Breaking Barriers,” which will encourage us to examine the obstacles — whether they be physical, social, or ideological — that prevent us from making the world a better place. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted many of the existing hurdles that exist in our societies as well as created new ones, including access to healthcare, education, and employment opportunities. It has also exposed the profound inequalities and disparities that exist both within and between countries, adding a level of difficulty for some communities to recover.
However, amidst this crisis, we have seen remarkable acts of resilience, kindness, and solidarity. People have banded together across borders, cultures, and worldviews to support one another and overcome the barriers posed by the pandemic. Their spirit of unity and togetherness is what we need to restore and reform our world.
As delegates, you will have the opportunity to represent various nations and viewpoints, engage in thoughtful debate, and develop actionable solutions to some of the most pressing challenges plaguing the globe. We believe that by working together, we can break down these barriers and build a brighter future for all.
