QISS Libraries

The QISS Library is stocked with more than 20,000 books (including library books, textbooks, and teaching resources). We have a Lower School library which contains picture books, easy reader chapter books, nonfiction, and much more. The Upper School library provides students and teachers with fiction and non-fiction at all reading levels, a solid collection of classic and contemporary literature, current periodicals and reference books in all subjects. We are always acquiring more books and resources so that we can offer the most up-to-date stock to our students. In addition, students have access to computers and wireless internet in our libraries, which makes it a great setting for quiet study or group project work. You are welcome to visit the library and see what exciting things we have going on.

Lower School Library

The Lower School Library is the QISS “Home Library” for grades Pre-K through to Fifth Grade. It contains materials that are appropriate for this grade band, from big picture books to sophisticated materials on just about any given topic. Additionally, the Lower School Library contains leveled reading books with high appeal readers across a range of ages and abilities. The librarian, Ms. Oprah, helps the students in their selection of books so that everyone is challenged, while not going too far beyond their designated level. The aim is to instill and cultivate a life-long love of reading with as few unnecessary obstacles as possible. The library is a place where both intellect and imagination can soar. Each class visits the library once a week to hear a story and to have Ms. Oprah check-in and check-out reading materials.

The library is also a source of classroom materials for teachers. At the beginning of each unit of inquiry teachers will consult the librarian and locate the appropriate resources needed to support their learning activities. The library is a vibrant place. It is a hub of learning and teaching activities that represent the QISS mission of developing mindful hearts.
