Every classroom is a small community. Students and teachers spend lots of time together and must learn to cooperate for a common goal. Organized team sports, in general, are a great way to build chemistry and understanding within a community, but soccer is truly special. It’s the most popular sport in the world for a reason! It brings people of all ages and backgrounds together for a common “goal”.
Furthermore, soccer encourages many of the core values that we stress at QISS: integrity, compassion, inclusivity, and creativity. Campaigns like “fair play” and “say no to racism” have become commonplace in many soccer leagues around the world, and they speak against negative behaviors like cheating and prejudice. Often, games are held as charitable events to benefit children or others who are underprivileged.

또한 축구는 저희 QISS의 핵심 가치관: 정직, 동정, 포용, 창조를 반영합니다. ‘페어플레이’나 ‘인종주의에 반대’와 같은 스포츠 정신은 이미 전 세계 축구 리그에서 매우 보편화되어 있습니다. 때때로 경기는 복지관 아동이나 다른 빈곤층을 위한 자선 행사로 개최됩니다.
Soccer has this ability to create an atmosphere of passion, pride, and team spirit. You don’t have to search online for long to find stadiums packed with people wearing their team’s colors, chanting songs, or shouting with joy when their team has scored. Similarly, as educators, we want our students to be proud of their achievements and to celebrate them!
The World Cup is soccer’s most popular international event. Every four years, 32 nations from all around the world compete for the trophy. This year it will be held in Qatar in November and December. It is safe to say, I will certainly be tying the event into my classroom and giving students the opportunity to learn about new people and places. As a soccer fan, I find the games themselves to be entertaining. However, what makes it special as a teacher, is the unity and collaboration apparent throughout the competition whether you’re a fan of soccer or not.
