QISS Weekly Update: Week 33 – 2016-2017

Dear QISS Families and Friends,

Last week QISS attended the ACAMIS Track and Field event in Beijing, and unsurprisingly we were well represented in the medal tally. A huge congratulations to the following students who demonstrated not only outstanding athletic ability and the QISS ESLRs, but also sportsmanship and maturity.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

QISS Annual Art Show: Sunday, May 21st

Please don’t forget that on Sunday, May 21st the QISS Art Department’s Mr. Weaver and Ms. King will be hosting the annual QISS Art Show. It will be held on the QISS Upper School 1st Floor on Sunday May 21 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. There will be music from the QISS Upper School Band, food, and a silent auction. The money raised from the event will go to buy art supplies for the Jimo Hope Primary School.

May Open House Tour: Tuesday, May 23rd

The May Open House Tour will be the final Open House of the 2016-2017 academic year. If you have friends who are interested in sending their child to QISS, the Open House tour is a great opportunity for them to meet the members of the QISS Leadership Team, tour the campus and have a chance to ask the questions that are relevant to their family. Each Open House even has been well attended this year, and the May event will be no exception. We look forward to seeing you there.

Spirit Week in the Upper School

Dear QISS Students, Parents, and Teachers,

Greetings from Student Council!

As we are having the last weeks of 2016 – 2017 school year, the US Student Council is hosting this year’s Spirit Week from May 22nd – 26th. Participating in Spirit Week develops mindful hearts of students, and demonstrates the ESLRs, such as courage and vitality. Spirit Week also bonds House members together as it ensures the cohesiveness of House teams. We hope this will be both meaningful and fun for all of you!

Date: May 22nd – May 26th

Participants: Grade 6 – Grade 12 ALL students, teachers and admins

The explanations below provide a description of how students can show their QISS spirit:

Monday – Twins Day and Mix Match Day: Students (in pairs) will dress in the concept of “twins” and Mix-match from costume to hairstyle. Example: 2 students wearing a blue hair wigs and green sneakers

Tuesday – Decade Day: Students are supposed to dress in ANY era before the 1990’s. Example: 1970 Disco style

Wednesday – Cross-Gender Day: Students will dress in opposite gendered clothing, to display compassion and sensitivity towards another gender.

Thursday – Pajama Day: Students will wear clothing that they wear when they sleep (pajamas) and come to school with absolute comfort.

Friday – Spirit Wear/ House Color Day: Students will wear athletic, sporty clothing or clothing in their house color. This displays the community that has been established among the entire Upper School at QISS.

Upper school students, please come dressed as each day’s theme and participate in the Spirit Week! Clothing/costumes should comply with the QISS Student Dress Code, as outlined in the Student Handbook.  Each day, a winner will be selected by a panel for best costume.  The winner will receive a secret prize! Happy Spirit-ing!!
