QISS Weekly Update: Week 13 – 2016-2017

Dear QISS Families and Friends,

Thank you all for making the 2016 International Day Bazaar the best International Day ever at QISS. It was a day of fun, community building, great food, music, performances and cultural activities. This weekly update blog will be mostly dedicated to providing the community with photo memories of International Day.

However, we do still have important announcements regarding the Holiday Gala.

Holiday Gala

This year’s annual QISS Holiday Gala will be held at the Shangri-La Hotel on December 10th. Tickets are on sale now from the school development office for 350RMB.

For those who are unfamiliar, the Holiday Gala is an annual event for QISS teachers, parents and guests to come together in a lively atmosphere and celebrate our achievements in the year to date. It is an adult event, meaning no students are allowed to attend. This year, the theme of the event is USA 1920’s “Great Gatsby” style.

The Holiday Gala is also a PTA fundraising event. Like last year, the aim this year is to raise funds for a school in Jimo (Jimo Hope Primary School). The QISS PTA supported this school last year and hope to do even more for them this year.

More information about the Gala will be coming home in newletters throughout the week.

Counselor’s Update

This week a representative from the State University of New York’s Korea campus (SUNY Korea) came to visit with QISS high school students who are interested in STEM-related careers.

International Day photos

International Day 2016 was held on November 12th. It was a huge success. QISS, the PTA and the International Day committee thank all who attended, ran booths and volunteered to make it a huge success. Teachers, staff, students, parents and businesses from Qingdao all worked hard to make the event successful.
