Dear QISS Families and Friends,

We are now at the end of week 32, which means we have just over four weeks left until the Summer Holiday. We trust you are making your plans and looking forward to a well-earned break. The academic calendar for 2016-2017 is currently being finalised. Students will start school on Monday, August 8th, 2016.

As we are now at the half-way point of the final quarter, progress reports are being sent home today. Please ask your child if they received a progress report (all students in the upper school receive one), and take some time discussing the results of the quarter so far. If you have any concerns about your child's progress, please do not hesitate to contact their teachers to arrange a personal conference. Education is a partnership between students, parents and teachers and communication is the key to success.

School Life

Lower School and Upper School assemblies

Our Lower School students have been working hard in order to focus on only speaking English at school. The students spent time at our Lower School Assembly on Wednesday talking about the ESLR's that they use when thinking about only speaking English at school. Students said that they must use Sensitivity and Compassion when speaking at school because if we use other languages other than English, then other students won't know what they are saying and it might hurt their feelings. Several students also shared that it requires a lot of Intelligence because we have to work on learning new words to use when talking to other students. They know that it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to learn English and be able to speak in English. During the assembly the students played an exciting game called "Head's Up". In this game the students used Vitality to work in teams to use actions and English words in order to help their teammates guess what word was on the paper that they placed on their heads. The students were enthusiastic as they worked together to guess the words. Our winning team solved 47 words and won ice cream at lunch. Great job Sharks!

The Upper School students participated in a house team competition. We invited student representatives from each of the high school grade levels to play a game called "Minefield Minecart" that tested their abilities to communicate effectively with their teammates in order to achieve their goal.  Not only did the students have a great time, but they also had an opportunity to showcase their English communcation skills and to build a sense of team spirit within the QISS community.

HS Chinese Field Trip

Student from the HS Chinese classes, and some grade 8 students, took a field trip to Pichai Yuan to study the history, changes and current status of this important historical point in Qingdao. The first photo was taken in front of the Sender church. The second photo was taken in front of the old street area which it will be rebuilt.
