Students taking part in our Festival of Words Chinese Character Competition

  • Thank you to all the staff, students and parents who attended our Entrepreneur's Day last Saturday.  The event was a huge success and a great time was had by all. Classes donated almost 6000 RMB from their proceeds to the Red Cross.
  • Today marks the end of our Festival of Words. It was a great week of word play.

Announcements

  • Join us tomorrow for our Entrepreneur's Day and Honor Roll assembly.  The students have been working very hard planning and preparing their businesses and need your help to support them!  After lunch from 12:00-1:00 there will also be an assembly to recognize the honor roll students as well as announce the highest earning business from Entrepreneur's Day.   This is a mandatory school day for students and busses will pick students at the usual time in the morning and depart from the school at 1:00.

  • All next week QISS will celebrate our annual "Festival of Words". The Festival of words is a QISS tradition that celebrates language and communication over the course of a week, featuring school wide activities, competitions and events. These activities will highlight the eclectic and vibrant nature of language, and showcase the many talented students that we have here at QISS.  The goal of the Festival is to create an inclusive community, in which students can celebrate not only their linguistic diversity, but their common language of English.   It will be an enjoyable week for students of all native languages, English abilities, and grade levels. The students and teachers will participate in activities such as: Spelling Bee, Language Sounds, Password Game, Word Wall, Reading Buddies, Teacher Read-Out-Loud, Word Games, Chinese Language, 48 H Film Festival and a Flash Mob Dance. Be sure to have your child tell you about the Festival of Words!

  • Congratulations to our boys and girls varsity basketball teams on a strong performance in this year's QISN tournament last week. The boys lost a few close games to place 4th and our girls made their way into the championship game for a 2nd place finish.    Go Sharks!

  • Happy New Year and welcome back to the second half of the school year!  We hope you all had an enjoyable and relaxing break. We are all looking forward to a great second semester.
  • Quarter 2 report cards were sent home with the students today.  Please take the time to sit down and read them together with your children and do not hesitate to contact the teachers if you have any questions or concerns.
  • Information regarding Entrepeneur's Day on Saturday, January 24 was sent home this week.  Please support our young entrepeneurs by getting involved.

Announcements

  • Thank you to everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to attend the many community events that were going on at QISS this past week.  Our Quarter 2 Key Assignments and Winter program were a huge success!  Thank you to the students and teachers for all their hard work, and to the PTA and the parent volunteers for their wonderful array of items for sale during intermission.  We also had a great turn out at our last PEP Talks and "Chit Chat...with a twist!" of 2014.  As always, your support as parents is much appreciated. We wouldn't be the great school we are without you!

The Advanced Band entertains the crowd at the Winter Program

  • Congratulations to the Advanced Band group that performed at several schools in Los Angeles this past week. The group returns to Qingdao on Sunday.
  • Today is the last day of school before the winter break.  We wish you all a safe and happy holiday season and look forward to another great half of the school year in 2015. School will resume on Monday, Janaury 12.  For those of you that are moving on, we wish you all the best!  Know that you will always have a home at QISS.

  • The Boys Basketball team played CISQD on Thursday. After falling behind in the first half, the team worked hard and mounted a comeback in the second half. Unfortunately, it was not enough to catch up. Great effort Sharks!

  • Thank you to everyone who attended our 2nd Annual QISS Holiday Gala last Saturday!  The event was a huge success and a great time was had by all.  A special thanks to our QISS PTA who worked tirelessly to put together such a fantastic evening.
  • Thank you also to our Lower School Student Council for who organized a fun event on Wednesday for the lower school students where they got to drink hot cocoa in their pajamas during lunch hour. 
  • Tomorrow is our Key Assignment day and Winter Program. This is a a mandatory school day for students but we hope you will also come and enjoy the presentations and festive concert the students and teachers have been working so hard on.   • Our Advanced Band departs on Sunday for thier much anticipated trip to Los Angeles, California.  We wish them all safe travels and a fantastic trip.  Further information and pictures will be posted in the new year.
  • Please plan to join us for two QISS Community events next week:  On Monday we will host our Monthy PEP Talk where we will present an informative session on finding the balance between having a relaxing break and avoiding the dreaded holiday slide, and on Thursday we will have our "Chit Chat...with a twist" where we will enjoy a Christmas Coffee Catch up with optional Christmas Cookie Exchange.

  • The Model United Nations class is actively working on preparation for the first QISSMUN conference we will hold on April 17-18 of 2015.   • Varsity Boys and Girls Basketball pteams both had games yesterday. The boys played an intense game against Malverne College and squeaked out a 31-28 victory. The girls put forth a strong effort but came out on the losing side of a 31-10 score. Great job Sharks!
  • Basketball practices continue this week. Girls will practice Mondays and Wednesdays; boys will practice Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • The ACAMIS Basketball tournament is February 5-7 in Beijing.
