Dear QISS Families and Friends,

We are now at the end of week 33, which leaves just 3 action-packed weeks in the 2015-2016 academic year. This week we held the final PEP Talk for the year, looking back on the year gone by, and previewing the year to come. This weekend, the QISS Art Department will host their 'Empty Bowls' project, aimed at raising funds for the United Nations World Food Programme. Please see the details below.

QISS Art Show 2016: Empty Bowls Project

Students met in the cafeteria several weeks ago to take part in painting ceramic bowls for our school wide "Empty Bowls" project.  The bowls will be part of an art installation that will be on display as part of our annual art exhibition to celebrate learning in art at QISS and raise funds and awareness for global hunger.  The exhibition will take place at the 138 Art Cafe and art gallery on May 21st where a humble bowl of soup will be served to acknowledge those with lack of access to simple nutrition.  Artworks from all students from Pre-K - Grade 12 will be on display and proceeds from the event will be donated to UN World Food Program.

When: This Saturday, May 21st, 2016.  Private opening: 1-3 pm for QISS families.  Public Exhibition 3-4:30 pm

Where: 1st Floor Leader Plaza (Miaoling Lu Entrance near the Blue Horizon Hotel) 18 Qinling Lu, Laoshan

Cost: 30RMB (includes 1 bowl of soup and a souvenir). Kids under 5 are free. Tickets available at the door.

Sports Day Community BBQ

On Monday, June 6th, 2016, QISS will celebrate its annual Sports Day. This year, the PTA have decided to do something extra for the QISS community. Using funds raised throughout the year, the PTA has bought BBQs and other equipment and will hold a community BBQ on Sports Day. The PTA will supply a BBQ snack and drinks for all attendeees, and we encourage parents to bring a plate of food or some drinks to share. More details will be sent out closer to the day.

Student Ambassador T-Shirts

On June 1st (Children's Day) the QISS student ambassadors in High School and Grade 3 students will visit a school in Jimo to donate sports and art equipment purchased by the QISS PTA, in conjunction with the Qingdao Expat Charity. The funds were raised during the Holiday Gala in 2015, and were pledged to benefit a primary school in Jimo. While there, we will play sports games, activities, provide art lessons and do science experiments for them. The aim of the project is to strengthen our relationship with this school, so we can plan in the future how to assist them with larger school improvement projects.

To help the school, the student ambassadors have designed a T-shirt that they are selling for 60RMB. All profits will be donated to this school.

Below is the design;

If you are interested in purchasing a t-shirt, an order form will be sent home on Monday, which you can complete and send back. Alternatively, you can select the size you want and download the order form here ( St. Ambassador T-shirt sale.pdf )  and return it as soon as possible. The size chart is below.

If you have any questions, please contact or contact any of the student ambassador leaders: Sunny Hwang, Jolie Kim or Sunah Hwang.

Thank you!
