Dear QISS Families and Friends,
This week has been strangely quiet around school, with the entire upper school away for Week without Walls. Throughout the week, each of the groups have been sending through a steady stream of photos showing off the amazing places they have visited, and the cultural activities they have engaged in. Without a doubt, this has been a week of deep learning and appreciation of Chinese culture and history. We are sure that the children who participated in the Week without Walls will return with great memories. Check the 'School Life' section below to see some photos from Week without Walls.

PTA Charity Book Drive
The QISS Parent-Teacher Association are now collecting books to be donated to the Jimo Hope Primary School. We have been working with this school since 2015, raising funds to help benefit their children. This year, the PTA aim to use the proceeds of the Holiday Gala, along with other funds raised by the PTA, to support the Jimo Hope Primary School build a safe basketball court. In thinking about how they can continue to support the children, it was decided that second hand books would be useful.
If you have English or Chinese books that you no longer need, please bring them to school to be donated to the Jimo Hope Primary School. The QISS PTA will personally deliver the donations to the school.
Mr. Matthews taught Grade 3 about 3D printing. Grade 3 are studying animal adaptations and dinosaurs in their inquiry, so Mr. Matthews brought a 1:1 scale velociraptor claw that he 3D printed on the school's 3D printer. They then went to the 3D printer and begun printing a T-Rex Skull that will feature in their Key Assignment.
The principal of Jimo Hope Primary School, several teachers, and a leader from the Jimo education bureau, visited QISS to learn about the QISS instructional model. They toured several classrooms, learned about inquiry-based learning, observed some classes in action and took some tips back to use in their own classrooms. QISS values deep connections with the local community, and it is an honour to be able to share the instructional practices being used at QISS with schools from the Qingdao region.
Students have been participating in the Kungfu After-School Activity Program (ASAP) in recent weeks. They are learning from their shifu very quickly.
