Dear QISS Families and Friends,
WASC Accreditation Visit: QISS's commitment to ongoing excellence.
This week's visit from the WASC Accreditation Visiting Committee has gone very smoothly. The visiting committee have met with the QISS Leadership Team, all staff members, the PTA Executive Board, the Board of Trustees and other stakeholders to validate and corroborate the findings and evidence presented in our self-study report. Their findings correlate closely with ours, and their overall positive outlook and compliments on the effectiveness of our programs over the past week have been encouraging. We are confident in the results of this visit, and truly thank the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) for their thorough accreditation process. Our commitment to this process must reassure our community that we take student learning seriously, and are deeply committed to the ongoing growth and success of each and every child at QISS.

QISS Model United Nations
This weekend, QISS will once again play host to the QISSMUN model united nations. Students from across Qingdao will converge on the Upper School to practice their debate, writing and public speaking skills. We wish the best of luck to all students participating in this prestigious event.
Dr. Kim's math competitions are coming up. The Math Contest will be held on March 21st. All 1st place winners will participate in the Math Count on Key Assignment day on March 25th. Parents, teachers and students from grades 8 to 12 will participate in the theatre.
Next week our entire upper school will leave Qingdao for their annual Week-without-Walls trips. These trips are valuable for students for several reasons. First, they provide students with an opportunity for team-building and strengthening connections with their classmates. They will learn to cooperate and help one another as they Develop Mindful Hearts. Second, the trips are all deeping integrated into the curriculum. Throughout the trips, students will be completing work, recording their experiences and reflecting on what they are seeing and doing. This is all an important aspect of the inquiry process. At QISS, students do not simply learn through textbooks and classrooms. They learn through experiences. We encourage our students to question the world around them as they continue their journey towards being truly global citizens. Third, our students come from all over the world. It is important that they have opportunities to travel within China and learn more about their host country. It is our desire that by the end of their time in China, all QISS students will have an appreciation for the deep and rich Chinese culture.
We are sure your children will grow as a result of these trips. We look forward to seeing their photos and hearing about all of the valuable experiences they have while away.

PTA Charity Book Drive
The QISS Parent-Teacher Association are now collecting books to be donated to the Jimo Hope Primary School. We have been working with this school since 2015, raising funds to help benefit their children. This year, the PTA aim to use the proceeds of the Holiday Gala, along with other funds raised by the PTA, to support the Jimo Hope Primary School build a safe basketball court. In thinking about how they can continue to support the children, it was decided that second hand books would be useful.
If you have English or Chinese books that you no longer need, please bring them to school to be donated to the Jimo Hope Primary School. The QISS PTA will personally deliver the donations to the school.
