Dear QISS Families and Friends,
WASC Accreditation Visit: QISS's commitment to ongoing excellence.
Next week is an incredibly important week for QISS, as we will have our WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) accreditation visit. In order to maintain formal status as a recognised international school, QISS adheres to a set of rigorous standards that are approved by WASC. Having accreditation means that all grades, transcripts and diplomas from QISS are recognised by schools and universities around the world. For the past year, the entire QISS stakeholder community - from administrators, teachers and staff to parents, students and the QISS board of trustees - have been working on a document called a self-study report. Throughout the process, the stakeholders have been examining QISS through the lens of an accreditor, identifying our strengths, and areas where we can improve. The key focus of the report is student learning, and how we as a school are committed to ongoing improvement to ensure students are achieving their goals. This report has been submitted to WASC, and the WASC Visiting Committee will arrive in Qingdao on Saturday, March 4th to commence their week-long visit. Throughout the week, the members of the visiting committee will be walking through the school, spending time in classrooms, meeting with stakeholder groups, including teachers, students, support staff, the board of trustees and the PTA executive board. By Thursday, March 9th, the accreditation recommendations will be announced to the QISS community. We are very confident in the excellence of QISS. The self-study process has been fascinating. As well as highlighting the many strengths that we can be proud of as a community, we have also identified areas of growth that can be integrated into the QISS Strategic Plan Framework, and implemented going forward. We are eagerly anticipating the WASC Visiting Committee, and look forward to showing off our great school to them.

PTA Charity Book Drive
The QISS Parent-Teacher Association are now collecting books to be donated to the Jimo Hope Primary School. We have been working with this school since 2015, raising funds to help benefit their children. This year, the PTA aim to use the proceeds of the Holiday Gala, along with other funds raised by the PTA, to support the Jimo Hope Primary School build a safe basketball court. In thinking about how they can continue to support the children, it was decided that second hand books would be useful.
If you have English or Chinese books that you no longer need, please bring them to school to be donated to the Jimo Hope Primary School. The QISS PTA will personally deliver the donations to the school.
